2014 Farm Bill meeting, private pesticide training Dec. 16

Register by Dec. 12 for Farm Bill meeting

Greene County Extension and Outreach will host a 2014 Farm Bill program overview on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The meeting is scheduled for 9 am to noon at St Joseph Parish Center in Jefferson. A free lunch will follow, and those needing private pesticide applicator training are invited to stay for the afternoon with training beginning promptly at 1:30 pm. (No late entrants will be admitted to the PPAT training.)

Presenters for the Farm Bill portion of the day will be Shane Ellis, ISU Extension and Outreach farm management specialist, and Tracy Zimmerman, Greene County FSA County executive ddirector. Topics include base reallocation, yield updating, Price Loss Coverage (PLC), Ag Risk Coverage (ARC), implications of PLC and ARC on Supplemental Coverage Option (SCO), and Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). There will be a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.

There is no fee for the Farm Bill portion of the meeting and lunch, but registration is required and seating is limited to the first 175 participants. Please call Greene County Extension at 515-386-2138 by 4:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 12 or email lballard@iastate.edu to reserve a seat.

 

Private pesticide applicator recertification training will follow the Farm Bill meeting from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Mark Johnson, ISU Extension & Outreach field agronomist will be the presenter. The training is for any private agricultural crop producers in the state of Iowa who apply restricted-use pesticide on property they own or rent. Those producers in Greene County who are currently certified have received a mailing containing a brochure about the event. Please be sure to bring your brochure with you to the training, as it contains your certification number, which is required to receive credit for attending.

 

Registration opens at 12 pm on the day of the event. No pre-registration is required, but participants must be in their seats no later than 1:30 pm. Those attending the Farm Bill meeting will have the opportunity to register and receive their materials during the lunch break. Cost for re-certification is $20.
